Match & Smatch, a major supermarket chain specialising in fresh produce, has been present in Luxembourg since 1974. The group now has 26 supermarkets (12 Match and 14 Smatch) in the country. With around 800 dedicated employees, they strive every day to meet the needs of their customers with passion and commitment.

Context

Did you know that 95% of all purchases will be made online by 2040? This rise in e-commerce is even affecting fresh produce purchases. Match & Smatch has seized this opportunity and decided to strengthen its online presence. Aware of the rapid change in consumer buying habits and the potential of online sales, Match & Smatch called on our web agency.

The objective was clear: to exploit the full potential of e-commerce to boost sales and strengthen the brand’s online presence. How did we achieve this? With an optimised e-commerce solution, aligned with the brand’s values and adapted to the demands of today’s market.

Technological excellence to meet retail requirements

As part of our drive to combine technological excellence with retail imperatives, we set ourselves the goal of creating an immersive and comprehensive online shopping experience. One of the cornerstones of this transformation was the implementation of an intuitive and efficient Click and Collect functionality. This functionality had to guarantee customers a seamless experience, from choosing products online to collecting them in-store, while respecting their preferences.

In addition, widespread accessibility was a priority, aiming to offer the same benefits to both new and existing customers. Every stage of this project has been meticulously thought through to meet the varied needs and expectations of our customers. Particular emphasis was placed on making the Drive available in multiple languages, ensuring an optimal user experience, taking into account the different locations of the shops.

Throughout the project, our team was committed to accurately representing the company’s positioning. We made a point of translating the concept of ‘pleasure’ shopping and highlighting the fresh, local produce for which the brand is renowned. Every line of code and every visual design was guided by a commitment to reflect Match & Smatch’s identity and offer an e-commerce experience that lives up to its reputation.

Challenge

The major challenge was to integrate e-commerce into the store’s existing processes. This alignment between the shops and the Drive was essential in order to effectively manage the vast range of products and ensure optimum management of orders, stocks and transactions.

Implementation of a high-performance Drive on Adobe Commerce Cloud, integrating an Akeneo PIM for optimum product management. Links with promotional tools, stock management, checkouts and internal loyalty programmes, guaranteeing a seamless customer experience and optimised internal operations.

A strategic choice: Adobe Commerce on Cloud

When designing the e-commerce site for Match & Smatch, it was imperative to gain an in-depth understanding of the requirements and expected customer journey. We wanted to develop a platform that perfectly met these expectations. One of the priorities was to promise simple CMS page management to enable Match & Smatch to easily update content and be responsive to changes, ensuring an optimal user experience and driving online growth.

Adobe Commerce on Cloud was the obvious choice. This platform was selected for its robustness and advanced e-commerce functionalities, which were essential for effectively meeting the project’s requirements.

With its integrated marketing tools, personalisation features and full data integration, it has significantly enriched the customer experience. Adobe Commerce has also made it possible to create various attributes for each product, which are essential for providing detailed information. These attributes are managed via PIM (Product Information Management) and are used for each point of sale, guaranteeing an accurate and consistent flow of information.

Thanks to this technology, it has also been possible to implement automated recommendations based on customer segments. This opened the door to the optimisation of marketing initiatives based on these segments, in particular with adapted pricing rules for shopping baskets based on the user. By opting for Adobe Commerce on Cloud, we were able to guarantee an exceptional experience for Match & Smatch’s customers, while providing the company with a scalable platform and greater operational efficiency.

 


Optimal, fluid product management

We centralised and synchronised product data between the Akeneo PIM and Adobe Commerce, enabling real-time management of a vast catalogue of over 15,000 items. This integration enabled Match & Smatch to manage product data efficiently, updating and publishing it synchronously across various sales channels.

This was essential in order to manage a large number of product references and all their attributes, such as photos, descriptions, prices, nutritional information, allergens, and so on. Match & Smatch can now offer a wide range of products to meet the varied needs of its customers, while keeping its stocks constantly up to date.

In addition, this integration with stock management tools and loyalty systems has strengthened communication between the site, the Click and Collect functionality and customer requests. Real-time notification of orders on the Drive and their completion ensures a smooth and secure experience for end customers. This synchronisation has also enhanced customer satisfaction and the reputation of Match & Smatch.

A partnership that goes beyond just putting the website online

Our partnership with Match & Smatch goes far beyond the launch of an e-commerce site. Spanning more than two years, this solid collaboration is based on co-creation and attentive listening to the customer’s needs.

Our commitment goes beyond the design phase. We develop and maintain the site, basing our partnership on trust and technical expertise. As part of this partnership, we carry out in-depth weekly data analysis to prevent problems and continually improve technological performance. Every week, we hold a follow-up meeting with Match & Smatch to assess the situation and identify potential optimisations or new features to continuously improve the platform.

In addition to customer data, we attach great importance to the Drive’s technical performance. For example, we have set up a monitoring tool that enables our developers to keep an eye on the state of health of the hosting, to memorise all error messages and to be alerted in the event of difficulties or malfunctions on the site. This close and attentive partnership ensures the smooth running and constant evolution of the Match & Smatch site, reflecting our commitment to their ongoing success.
