Context
Before working with our agency, IlluDesign was facing a crucial digital challenge. Despite being an established player in the Belgian lighting and electrical supplies market, their website did not fully meet their aspirations and strategic needs.
As a high-end lighting supplier, IlluDesign understood the growth potential of online sales. However, to achieve this, they needed to rethink their online presence to deliver an exceptional customer experience that would excellently reflect their passion and brand identity.
A high-performance, reliable online shop
At the heart of this project was the need to create a more robust e-commerce platform to meet IlluDesign’s constantly evolving needs, as well as the expansion of their product catalogue. Two of the major challenges were hosting and cache management.
Adequate hosting was essential to ensure that the growing number of visitors could be managed without compromising the speed and fluidity of the user experience. In addition, cache management was also crucial to optimising the performance of the site by minimising page load times and thus guaranteeing optimal navigation.
To meet these challenges, our team of developers leveraged advanced technologies such as Kubernetes for hosting, enabling the site to intelligently adapt to traffic and maintain optimal performance even during busy periods. At the same time, we optimised cache management using Redis, which significantly improved page load speed and the overall visitor experience.
So, by combining technical expertise and advanced technologies, we successfully solved the challenges associated with hosting and cache management. IlluDesign’s website is now a powerful and reliable e-commerce platform, in line with their ambitions and the development of their business.

Taking the online experience to the next level
In response to the customer’s requirements, DJM worked with the in-house team to develop a highly sophisticated online shop. This platform, which integrates IlluDesign’s entire product catalogue, was designed using Magento 2, an e-commerce platform renowned for its power and flexibility, adapted to the specific needs of e-commerce.
Alongside this online shop, DJM developed a showcase site using WordPress. This solution was used to create a digital showcase for IlluDesign’s image, highlighting their expertise in lighting and electromaterials.
In order to truly embody IlluDesign’s brand DNA, which focuses on designer and premium lighting, we enhanced the platform by integrating the Revslider extension. This extension enabled us to create captivating visual slideshows at the top of the page and on product pages.
In addition, to respond precisely to the needs of a particular customer segment, we implemented a request for quote module within the platform. This bespoke functionality provides a tailored experience and is perfectly suited to the particular requirements of this target audience.
By combining these technologies and integrating bespoke functionality, the site is positioned as a practical and dynamic online shop window for users, offering an immersive and engaging experience. This strategic approach has significantly improved user interaction with the site and enhanced the brand’s online impact.
Optimum performance
Optimizing the overall performance of the IlluDesign website was one of our main priorities during this project. Thanks to our technical adjustments to the hosting and caching, we improved the Core Web Vitals (CWV). These metrics measure the speed and responsiveness of the website. These aspects are fundamental to user satisfaction and SEO optimisation.
Our team of experts focused on these technical indicators to achieve significant improvements. But there was an additional challenge: IlluDesign offers an impressive product catalogue, comprising over 10,000 items. Managing such a large volume of products can often lead to longer loading times, which is very detrimental to the user experience.
Prior to our intervention, site users were experiencing frustrating delays between their actions and the site’s response. The ‘First Input Delay’ (FID), which measures this response time, has been considerably reduced thanks to our technical improvements. The user experience is now 12 times faster and smoother than before.What’s more, we were also able to significantly speed up the site’s loading time, guaranteeing an instant visual experience as soon as the site was opened.
In short, we successfully met the challenge of performance optimisation, ensuring that the technology fully supports the high-end customer experience IlluDesign wanted.
